Prof. Chinwe Obuaku-Igwe
Director-General & Special Envoy to the Governor
on Climate Change and Renewable Energy
Professor Chinwe Obuaku-Igwe is one of Nigeria's foremost voices on sub-national climate governance. As Director-General & Special Envoy on Climate Change and Renewable Energy for Osun State, she has built one of the most comprehensive and results-driven climate action offices in West Africa.
A scholar-practitioner with deep expertise in environmental governance, sustainable development, and community-based climate action, Prof. Obuaku-Igwe has translated academic rigour into measurable real-world outcomes β from distributing over 10,000 solar lanterns to establishing Osun State's first comprehensive Climate Action Plan.
Her approach is grounded in the conviction that climate action must be local, inclusive, and economically transformative β not merely a policy document but a lived reality for ordinary people. Under her leadership, Osun State has become a national reference point for sub-national climate governance, attracting international partnerships and rising from 30th to 6th in Nigeria's National Climate Governance Ranking.
