About This Project

The Imole Solar Lantern Campaign is Osun State's flagship renewable energy initiative. 'Imole' β€” meaning 'light' in Yoruba β€” captures both the literal and metaphorical mission of this programme: to bring clean, affordable light to communities left behind by the national grid.

Over 10,000 solar lanterns have been distributed to rural students who previously studied by kerosene flame, women market traders who lost productive evening hours without light, and health facilities that struggled to provide night-time care. The campaign has directly reduced indoor air pollution, cut household energy costs, and extended productive hours across communities.

The programme partners with local distributors and trains community champions to maintain and repair the lanterns, creating a sustainable local ecosystem rather than a one-off donation.
