Onibueja Dumpsite Restoration

๐Ÿ“ Osogbo, Osun State ยท ๐Ÿ‘ฅ 120+ SME traders, 15,000+ community members

About This Project

The Onibueja Restoration Project is the most visible and dramatic demonstration of Osun State's circular economy vision. What was once an overflowing, hazardous dumpsite on the outskirts of Osogbo has been progressively transformed into a functioning green community asset.

Phase 1 involved remediation and capping of the historic waste site, followed by establishment of composting facilities processing organic waste from Osogbo's markets. Phase 2 introduced a dedicated green SME market where recyclers, upcyclers, and waste processors operate formal, dignified businesses. Phase 3 โ€” currently underway โ€” is establishing ecological gardens and a training centre on the site.

The project has become a national reference point, attracting visits from state governors, federal ministry officials, and international development partners seeking to replicate the model.
