Prof. Chinwe Obuaku-Igwe led Osun State's delegation to COP28 in Azerbaijan, returning with strategic partnerships and new commitments to green finance for the state's climate programmes.
Osun State's delegation to the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) held in Baku, Azerbaijan, has returned with a portfolio of strategic partnerships that will accelerate the state's climate programmes over the coming years.
Led by Prof. Chinwe Obuaku-Igwe, the delegation engaged with international development finance institutions, bilateral development partners, and fellow sub-national climate actors from across Africa and the Global South. Key partnership discussions were advanced with the Green Climate Fund, UNDP Nigeria, and the Climate Investment Funds.
Speaking on the delegation's key takeaway, Prof. Obuaku-Igwe noted: 'What struck me most at COP28 was how many international partners are looking specifically for credible sub-national partners in Africa — and Osun State is now clearly on that map. The work we've done at home has opened doors internationally that were previously closed to us.'
