The Imole Solar Lantern Campaign reached a major milestone with the distribution of its 10,000th solar lantern in Iwo, marking a transformative moment for rural energy access in Osun State.
The Imole Solar Lantern Campaign — Osun State's flagship clean energy initiative — reached a historic milestone with the distribution of its 10,000th solar lantern at a ceremony in Iwo. The event was attended by the Governor's representative, traditional rulers from across the region, and over 500 community members.
The campaign, which began in 2023, has systematically replaced kerosene lamps across Osun State's rural communities, delivering clean light to students studying after dark, women traders in market stalls, and health facilities managing night-time emergencies without reliable grid electricity.
Studies conducted across campaign communities show a 73% reduction in kerosene expenditure among recipient households, and a measurable improvement in night-time study hours for students who received lanterns. Several secondary school students who received lanterns in the programme's first phase have since achieved notable academic results.
