Osun State has leapt from 30th to 6th place in Nigeria's National Climate Governance Ranking — a historic achievement credited to the work of the Office of the DG & Special Envoy on Climate Change.
In a landmark achievement for sub-national climate governance in Nigeria, Osun State has risen from 30th to 6th place in the National Climate Governance Ranking compiled by the Federal Ministry of Environment. The remarkable jump — 24 positions in a single year — was attributed to Osun State's comprehensive climate action infrastructure, including its state-level Climate Action Plan, the Imole Solar Lantern Campaign, and the Recycling Hub network.
Prof. Chinwe Obuaku-Igwe, Director-General & Special Envoy on Climate Change and Renewable Energy, received the recognition at the National Climate Governance Summit in Abuja. 'This ranking is not about us — it is about the 2,000 young people trained, the 350 green businesses established, and the 10,000 families who now have clean light in their homes,' she said.
The ranking assesses states on policy framework, programme implementation, private sector engagement, civil society partnerships, and measurable impact metrics.
