The second phase of the Onibueja Dumpsite Restoration Project officially opened its Green SME Market — a dedicated trading space for circular economy businesses operating at the transformed site.
The Onibueja Restoration Project has entered its second phase with the official opening of the Green SME Market — a purpose-built trading space where circular economy businesses can operate in formal, dignified conditions on the site of what was once Osogbo's most problematic dumpsite.
Fifty-two businesses are now trading at the market, covering a range of green products and services: recycled plastic products, compost and soil amendments, upcycled textiles, biochar, and recycling collection services. Each business operator has completed the Waste-to-Wealth training programme and registered as a formal enterprise.
The transformation of Onibueja has been described by the UNDP Nigeria Country Director as 'one of the most concrete and replicable examples of the circular economy transition in West Africa'. Site visits from officials across Nigeria and from five other African countries have been hosted over the past year.
