About This Project
Osun State's Climate Action Plan (CAP) represents a landmark achievement in Nigerian sub-national climate governance. As one of the first states in Nigeria to develop a comprehensive, legally-grounded climate action framework, Osun has established a template for other states to follow.
The CAP covers 10 years of climate targets across energy, transport, land use, agriculture, waste, and water. It defines measurable milestones, assigns institutional responsibilities, and establishes a monitoring and reporting framework aligned with Nigeria's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.
Developed through extensive stakeholder consultations across all 30 LGAs, the plan reflects the priorities of farmers, fisherfolk, traders, students, and local government officials. International technical support was provided by UNDP and the German development agency GIZ.
